AUKEY SK-M12 Water Resistant Bluetooth Speaker

I’ve seen and used a variety of bluetooth speakers from Amazon, at least one always goes through the testing environment every week. This speaker looks like industrial grade rugged all around. The speaker has dual 5 watts speaker with passive radiator in the back.

Note to bass lovers / heads: This is again a small speaker, more treble focussed sound, there is no active separate bass driver, but the passive drivers gives bit of bass and power. The bass goes down to 120Hz or so, but it would have helped a little more with more powerful amp. Still if you keep on a wooden surface the bass resonates and enhances slightly more.

Sits beautifully on desk, or even on a standard tripod - thanks to the clever inclusion of 1/4” thread hole. Outside is fully covered with heavy duty rubber material that gives a rugged look. In the box a Micro USB charging cable and 3.5mm cable is included. AUKEY always had the reputation of supplying highest quality micro USB, but in the last 2 packs they are including the standard cables.

Comes pre-charged, pairing up takes just less than 15 seconds or so - put Beyoce Lemonade full album for a spin. I’ve heard this recently on many different systems, so easy to compare the aspects. All the richness, sheer power, emotions and vocal colour coupled with the modern instruments and techniques used in the album can put any speakers to real test. AUKEY SK-M12 speaker held up okay with good audio reproduction. There is a sense of feeling that something is missing, but that’s surely because of the size and power of amp - in my opinion. Still very good for the size and price.

Moved on to some incredible remixes of popular tracks like BBHMM - no distortion at any given point, but lacks bass. The limitation of cabin shows off when you go higher levels. Bass always shines through when you have more room inside the speakers to design with. Passive subwoofer drivers, translates some of the frequency range to non-audible cabin vibration, that you can feel it.

Back to technology, the speaker comes with Bluetooth 4.1 profile and supports 3.5mm input as well. There is no NFC pairing included. Bluetooth pairing is almost instant. Not accurately tested, but with heavy listening at loud audio levels the speaker survives though 3-4 days without charging.

Few tips:

a. Keep the speaker in ear level for a more open sound.
b. Just to be aware the limitation of tiny speakers ability of bass reproduction, particularly for those who are bassheads.
